Many of you were able to attend another successful and inspiring week of conversation at the Canadian National Restorative Justice Symposium hosted during International Restorative Justice Week November 21-28th 2021. This virtual event featured keynote speakers Marlee Liss and Michael Nicoll Yahgulanaas as well as engaging dialogues on Innovative Expressions of RJ, Environmental Harm, Colonial Harm and Racial Harm. 2021 AGM Guest Speaker Announced – Myrna McCallum

Announcing RJABC's guest speaker at our upcoming Annual General Meeting on Monday, November 29 from 6-8 pm - Myrna McCallum! Myrna is a Métis lawyer from Green Lake in Treaty Six territory and the host of "The Trauma-Informed Lawyer" Podcast. Prior to founding Miyo Pimatisiwin Legal Services in 2019, Myrna served as an adjudicator in the Indian Residential Schools Settlement Agreement claims process, and Crown Prosecutor with the Ministry of the Attorney General in Saskatchewan.

Knowledge and access to restorative justice is not as widespread as it should be

A paper by Lynn S. Branham that was published in the Denver Law Review Forum titled “The Overlooked Victim Right: According to Victim-Survivors a Right of Access to Restorative Justice” outlines the same findings that the Federal Ombudsman for Victims of Crime has noticed: knowledge and access to restorative justice is not as widespread as it should be.

Working with Crown and MOU Development: Two-part Dialogue

Please join us for RJABC's 1st community dialogue! This 2-part community dialogue begins with a conversation with Deputy Regional Crown Counsel Joel Gold and Gillian Lindquist, Executive Director of Restorative Justice Victoria, about BC Prosecution Service’s new policy changes and restorative justice, and the process of developing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Attorney General. The second community dialogue offers an opportunity for the restorative justice community of practitioners and programs to connect, identify areas for growth in working with Crown, and share ideas.
